Working Towards Safe Schools and Prevention Education for All Students
We haven’t let stay-at-home orders and school closures stop us. Over the past few months, OneChild’s #Break the Chains Prevention Education, Early Intervention, and Leadership Tour has continued to great success, bringing critical information on child sex trafficking to students and inspiring them to take action.
In fact, of those surveyed, 100% of students and teachers believed that more students needed to hear our presentations, 92% of students said that they now know how to spot a victim of sex trafficking and 95% said that they can now recognize the warning signs of exploitation and trafficking.
%
believe more students need to hear our presentations
%
of surveys revealed that students knew someone being sexually exploited or exploiting others.
These numbers tell us that we’re on the right track, but they also tell us how needed our Tour is.
We’ve also been making strides with various School Boards. Our Founder, Cheryl Perera was invited by the Peel District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee to present to parents on the sexual exploitation of children. She is currently working with the York Region District School Board to develop an early intervention strategy to assist potential victims of trafficking. Cheryl also met with the Ontario Principals’ and Catholical Principals’ Council to promote prevention education for students and teachers.
While OneChild is fighting for curriculum on child sex trafficking, in the meantime we’re also playing a leading role in filling the gap in prevention education for students and educators.
